Tourniquets and Haemostatic Dressings are one of the latest additions to First Aid following a recent review.
They can be used together or totally independent depending on the situation.
The HSE advises that when carrying out a First Aid needs assessment, employers who identify a specific risk of life threatening bleeding.
For example, those working in:
Arboriculture
Construction
Glass Work
Agriculture
Anyone using Dangerous Machinery
. . . or using simple common sense should seriously consider providing tourniquets and haemostatic dressings and ensure that all their First Aiders are fully trained in their use.
The course concentrates on life threatening bleeding and gives you the skills to deal with this kind of emergency. You can make that difference with early intervention.
This comes fully into force at the start of 2017, it can be a stand alone course or it can be added to a First Aid course.
Courses are available now and as a “bolt on” to existing qualifications.
