Firstly, I would like to thank David for sharing in the 2020 June Page, his recent, successful experience, well done.
Now that the Official Covid-19 Alert Level is 3 and social distancing on the 4th July is reduced, we have been informed that we as tutors, will be able to start courses and tutoring again, with certain provisors. This will include, frequent hand washing, use of hand sanitisers, face shields for CPR practice.
We now have certain guide areas for presentations but as we know things can change, all given advice and criteria for attendees, tutors, administration and presentation will be applied. There could be changes as things progress in the short term and probably longer. This ongoing information will be used as and when available.
All courses are about teaching safety and candidate safety is just as important.
All of our courses possibly up to the end of 2020 will be for a maximum of six persons or for multiples of up to six persons. If you have 7 to 12 persons this will be 2 courses etc. things can change, any changes to this will be posted.
Anyone wanting a water safety talk must set up for social distancing.
With all of the above information in mind, First Aid courses are about the possibility of dealing with anything from small injuries up to saving lives. This is where confident contact with a casualty starts, body checks, action for choking, turning a casualty, etc. CPR is practiced on a manikin. This can be up close and personal.
Emergency departments, at this time, are at their lowest occupancy for a long time, with your help we can try to keep it that way. This recent ongoing problem has shown us that hospitals are for the very sick and emergencies.
If we all help we can lower waiting times and help others earlier, so it will be win-win for all. This is all up to you. We are hearing that probably hundreds of people have and still are helping others during this pandemic. Knowing First Aid is another way of giving help. Get involved in your community. Make that difference.
First Aid courses are not just for employment purposes, any family, group of friends, colleagues, can organise a course. It can be bespoke to yourselves or it can be a statutory course. Work courses are based on statutory requirements and can include work specific areas.
As a footnote:
With things easing with regard to the Covid-19 pandemic, be careful, remember it's still 2m with 1m + where 2m cannot be achieved.
With fine sunny weather, use sun block to start with, not when you start to feel the sun.
Do not treat outdoor water as something just to jump into to cool down, if at all, enter slowly and keep your head out. Treat any outside water with respect. It can kill.
