Thousands of people in the UK are dying because Britons are reluctant to attempt CPR. Members of the British public who witness a cardiac arrest perform CPR in fewer than 4 in 10 cases. Information from the British heart Foundation.
Research by the government showed that about 1,000 lives a year could be saved in England if more people were willing to give CPR.
The foundation’s medical director said: "Cardiac arrest survival rates are disappointingly low and have been for many years. Every minute without CPR or an AED ( Automated External Defibrillator) cuts a person’s chance of survival by about ten percent".
NHS England clinical director for heart disease Prof. Huon Gray said: "It is vital that we provide all people with the best possible chances of survival".
