We hope that everyone had a great Christmas and you all have a good safe New Year.
One of your New Year resolutions could be to gain information for helping yourself and others, should there be an accident or incident which you can start to deal with before any summoned help arrives. Your action could help to save a life if it is given early enough.
A number of incidents where giving early first aid, require follow up from the emergency services. You are giving them the time to get there. Some incidents needing first aid do not need the emergency services, and you could be the person providing the attention and expertise required. Knowing the difference is important, being able to do both is also important.
In some cases there is something called the “Golden Hour”. This is where the casualty must be in hospital, getting the treatment that they require to give the best outcome, in the hour following the incident. You can help to give someone that hour. Would you like to get that hour if it was you?
Most people learning first aid do so at work and the November newsletter touched on that. The positive side is that some people are learning first aid, but this is not enough? The problem is that not all “accidents” happen at work, most happen in the home and children are high on the list. The general public could require passing help at any time.
Any passer-by on the street can be in a very good position to help - are you up to it? The December news letter is a good indicator. I thank David and Carole for their kind words. Anyone could be enjoying the knowledge that they now have and I am given to understand that it really was quite painless.
