The UK’s Coastguard recorded its highest number of callouts in a single day for more than 4 years.
Its teams dealt with 340 incidents and rescued 146 people on Saturday 8th of August 2020.
The latest figures come just a week after the Coastguard reported its previous record of 329 incidents.
The UK’s Coastguard has issued a new warning urging people to be careful in the sea.
A lot of beaches have Lifeguards and various flags showing where people are “safest”, or where different things are allowed to happen. Why do a lot of people ignore them - have people stopped thinking safety?
Most people do not understand rip currents, under currents, off shore winds, breezes. Rivers look good, sound good, particularly in good weather and they too can kill. 6 inch (15cm) deep fast flowing water can knock someone off their feet. Shallow does not mean safe!
Standing on the wrong bankside, jumping into the wrong water, letting your head go under water, drinking alcohol before going into water, using the wrong items (plastic floatation aids, eg. air beds), just had a large meal, bravado, not knowing water, not recognising limitations, not doing a risk assessment etc.,etc.
Some people do not realise that if someone is called to help, they are risking that person’s life. How many of us go to work knowing that someone could ask you to risk your life because someone forgot something, or did not do something or did not bother?
DO NOT TAKE YOUR EYES OFF SOMEONE YOU KNOW IS IN THE WATER ESPECIALLY IF THEY ARE CHILDREN. OUTSIDE WATER IS NOT THE SAME AS BEING IN A SWIMMING POOL. PEOPLE ARE DYING THROUGH A LACK OF KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING. Learn about Water Safety . . . Contact Life Saving Solutions.
