Resurgence of Covid If you are going to a hospital as a possible patient by ambulance they will inform you if you need a mask, if you are going by car, take a mask and have sanitiser in the car. If you are going to any other medical centre, take a mask with you. More and more of these centres are asking for these again as before.
Covid is back on the spread, let’s not be slow on the pickup of these simple precautions, this time. Get your vaccination when you can, protect yourself and others.
According to the National news, hospitals are starting to get an increasing number of cases. Covid spreads because of us. We could once again, get to the stage of places not letting us enter because of not wearing a mask. Our advice is - accept it, get one, and wear it. I personally do not want to be the individual who either catches it or passes it on, with the risk the virus either killing me or me passing it to someone else. Get the kit and use it. PLEASE.
AED’s and CPR An AED is a very good piece of kit but it has limitations. If it takes too long to get one its use is limited. An AED works on Cardiac Arrest, its effect can be instant. Very few people that have an arrest out of hospital do not survive. Occasionally there is a little time. The casualty can be deteriorating at 10% per minute, that is “10 minutes” to secure an AED, get back to the casualty, apply it on the casualty, let it read the casualty and then it works as instructed by its programme. Then it will shock either manually or automatically. An AED does not know if a casualty is dead or alive – its job is to look for a shockable rhythm. (That is a brief description, there are other implications to consider).
CPR is a lifesaver and an important part of the use of an AED, as it can ask you to perform it. There are also other areas of First Aid where CPR is used.
Knowing how to handle a body with confidence and put it in various positions to aid treatment and/or recovery is an important skill. Hands have to be placed and moved in certain ways so as to instil confidence with a casualty, conscious or not.
